AFRO-COLOMBIAN MUSICAL TRADITIONS
Afro-Colombian music is a living heritage that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Colombia's Afro-descendant communities. This music, loaded with contagious rhythms and melodies, is mainly expressed through instruments such as the marimba, the caja, the guache and the cununo, among others. Drums, for example, are essential in genres such as porro, bullerengue or tambora, while the chonta marimba stands out in the Pacific region's currulao. Each of these instruments plays a fundamental role in the transmission of oral and sonorous traditions, serving as a means of resistance, celebration and social cohesion, representing the struggle to keep their values and traditions alive in a contemporary context.
